Nathalie Boutet
Called to the Ontario bar in 1991
Nathalie obtained her Civil Law Degree from Laval University (Québec City) and her Common Law Degree from the University of Western Ontario.
Nathalie began her legal career in Family Law as a sole practitioner. She joined Basman Smith as a partner in 2003 where she continues to practice in Family Law. Nathalie is also a Deputy Judge of the Small Claims Court and a contractual lawyer for Children’s Aid Societies.
She is highly involved in the practice of Collaborative Law.
Nathalie is routinely called upon by the media to discuss legal issues related to family law and has been a guest speaker, co-chair and has written several articles for various Continuing Legal Education programs. Nathalie is a member of the Toronto Bar and Bench committee, the Chief Justice of Ontario Advisory Committee on Professionalism and Equity and the Aboriginal Issues Committee of the Law Society of Upper Canada (LSUC) . She is a former president of the Association of French speaking jurists of Ontario (AJEFO) and received the AJEFO’s Award of Distinction in 2004.
She has a keen interest in public education, teaches Collaborative Law and has been an instructor at the LSUC’s Bar Admission Course for several years. Nathalie also teaches Parent Information Sessions to separating families through a York University pilot project. Nathalie was a guest teacher for the Family Law course in a co-operative program for high school students at York University’s Glendon Campus and taught Civil Procedure in the Mediation Certificate program offered in French at York University.
Nathalie has one daughter and enjoys playing ice hockey and soccer in her spare time.
