Alleged negligence in death after hospital discharge

Advocate Daily Post

An ongoing lawsuit alleges negligence in the treatment of a Bradford man who froze to death after being discharged from the Southlake Regional Health Centre on a frigid February night, says Toronto lawyer Richard Worsfold.

Rudolph Picavet, who suffered from mental illness and diabetes, was brought to the Newmarket hospital Feb. 10 , 2011 after he appeared disoriented and generally unwell, the statement of claim reads. He was brought in by ambulance and remained in the emergency department from noon until 10: 45 p.m. before being discharged with no assistance in returning home to his apartment as temperatures dipped to -24 C, the claim alleges.
